Dhanachuli is still relatively off the mainstream tourist's map. Thank God for that. With most Himalayan hamlets and villages now inundated with visitors from the polluted plains, one pines for areas still devoid of SUVs, garbage, boisterous town folks. There is nothing like taking in the serenity of a 300 kilometre stretch of white Himlayan wall in complete silence with only the wind and smell of Deodars to give you company.
Kumaon, in the winter, is a feast for peak watchers. An absolute gem for landscape photography, unpolluted night skies, healthy food, long walks and a time for uninterrupted reflection. Some of these pictures should demonstrate that, though it best experienced first hand.
